Eri is a multivoltine silk spun from open-ended cocoons, unlike other varieties of silk. The eri cocoons are open-mouthed and are spun. The silk is used indigenously for the preparation of chaddars (wraps). In India, this culture is practised mainly in the north-eastern states and Assam. Since the worms do not get killed during the process of silk extraction hence it is also known as Ahimsa Silk or Peace Silk Eri Silk Fabric, also known as Ahimsa Silk, Peace Silk, Endi, or Errandi, is a luxurious and ethical silk made from open-ended cocoons of the Eri silkworm (Philosamia ricini). Unlike conventional silk, the silkworms are not harmed during the process, making it a cruelty-free and eco-friendly textile.
